A native of Henrietta, Texas, Scot Meeks was first recognized for his athletic talent. A three sport all-star in high school; Scot went onto play baseball and rodeo in college. As a junior at Tarleton State University, Scot qualified for the College National Finals Rodeo. In 1994, after graduating with a B.S. in Ag Business and Marketing, Scot turned pro. After competing in professional rodeo for only four years, Scot became one of few calf ropers in the history of the PRCA to make the short rounds at Fort Worth and San Antonio in the same year.
During his career as a PRCA cowboy, Scot Meeks was strongly encouraged to cultivate his musical talent by close friend Fred Whitfield. As seven time World Champion Calf Roper and Scot's travel partner, Fred often experienced "live performances" as Scot sang along with the radio from one rodeo to the next. After months of encouragement, Scot took Fred's advice and put up his grass ropes to pursue a career in country music.
In 2000, Scot headlined the spring season of the Texas Gold Country Music Show in Wichita Falls, Texas. His version of the Merle Haggard classic, "Sing Me Back Home" was requested time and again by Meeks' fans. On the advice of industry professionals, Scot took time off from live performances in order to produce his first album. The result, "Out of the Chute"; was a project well received by Meeks' listeners. Scot then went on to tour in 2002 with Dave Alexander. The "Out Of The Chute Tour 2002" received rave reviews and included military concerts which sparked talk of a future USO tour.
Since early 2003, Scot has been touring the USA, playing major nightclubs, casino's, state fairs, and rodeo's. He tours with his five piece band, "Out Of The Chute" consisting of Chris Brown - keyboards, harmonica, and vocals; Ben Thorpe - bass and vocals; Carlos Guitierres - lead guitar and vocals; James Strezelecki - drums and vocals. Scot plays rhythm guitar and of course, lead vocals.
At the age of thirty, Scot Meeks currently resides in Mesquite, Texas with wife Jana. Her he continues to work as a farrier and enjoy golf, rodeo, and professional sports in his spare time.
